Data Champions Conference 2020 - Cancelled
17 March 2020
Reluctantly we have had to make the call to cancel the conference for this year, but hope to be able to hold another one towards the end of Term 1 next year.
If you want to keep updated on future events, or share anything, we have a google group here: https://groups.google.com/d/forum/nz-data-champions
We have made the decision not to proceed based on the following:
- We want to avoid having principals and senior leaders out of schools in a time where they are most likely to be needed at school.
- Although to date there have only been 11 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand and all are family transmissions and imported by recent travelers from out-side of New Zealand, this could rise at any stage this week.
- Although the conference is well under the threshold of 500 that is generally considered a mass gathering and that the government has requested be cancelled, it is none-the-less a gathering of over 100 people in close proximity with limited opportunity to maintain physical distance, with many flying in from around the country.
- The conference, while a great opportunity to build partnerships between schools and learn from each other, is not essential to the running of our schools.
Thank you very much for your understanding and we are hopeful to see you all at the forum later in the year.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me or give me a call.
Ngā manaakitanga (best wishes),
Jake Wills and the Data Champions Conference Team
